Reflected Glory

Photography has been recognized as a valid art source since the 1800's, when the first camera was produced. In recent years, photography has been brought from the pages of the family album, and into the forefront of art appreciation. Artists such as Ansel Adams with his focus on black-and-white pictures, Georgia O’Keefe’s paintings of flowers, and Anne Geddes’ photographs of flowers and people, have all greatly influenced and inspired Tonya.

Photography as art is a diverse commodity. The ability to exactly reproduce the original subject is not the primary goal. Rather, the photographer attempts to offer the viewer a glimpse into the very essence of the subject. While anyone can take a picture of a flower; few can capture the fragrance and the silky touch of the petals, that elusive factor that distinguishes a simple photo from art.

One who can is Tonya Vander, an award-winning photographer whose work has been showcased throughout metro Denver. Her work has drawn many positive comments from reviewers, judges, and the buying public. Tonya’s specialty is flowers, roses in particular, and her signature piece is a black-and-white rendition of a white rose, which she has aptly named "Simplicity".
